Israel has provided Italian authorities with a dossier concerning the Raffaele Ciriello murder. The free-lance photographer was killed March 13, 2002 in Ramallah. The Israeli Army Chief of Staff, General Ghiora Eiland, has provided the Italian ambassador in Tel Aviv the results of the enquiry carried out by an IDF inquiry panel. The dossier has already been forwarded to Milan's Prosecution office which is in charge of the Ciriello investigation.

The reporter was killed by six machine gun bullets whilst working in Ramallah on an assignment by the Corriere della Sera newspaper. Colleagues at the site of the murder say he was killed by a machine gun fire on an Israeli tank, despite Israeli authorities' denial. In August last year the Israeli government had provided an inkling as to the result of the enquiry, asserting that there was "no evidence" that the machine gun fire that killed Ciriello came from an Israeli tank.
